Mother's Day Styling Tips at Home

Mother’s Day is that special time of year where we get to celebrate, spoil and appreciate our mum and the extra special ladies in our lives. Whether you’re celebrating with a brunch, lunch or dinner, a gorgeous table setting will enhance the room and make it a dining experience to remember (no one’s even going to remember if you burnt the potatoes after seeing your exquisite table décor!).

We’re here to give you some tips on how you can create the perfect table setting. With recent times seeing us all isolated at home, why not get in touch with your creative side and pull together something beautiful.

FLORALS & LIGHTING

Florals are a simple addition that can transform a room or table instantly. A bouquet of flowers will add life and a luscious colour palette to your display.

Fresh white florals are currently on trend with an abundant amount of surrounding greenery. When going to your local florist, look for florals such as white roses, carnations, orchids or ranunculus. Combine with an ocean of fresh eucalyptus for a subtle but classic aesthetic.

Love a pop of colour? Add fresh lemons! Which you may already have in your fridge. Fruit in centrepieces… who knew right? They’re a great, simple addition to any centrepiece as well as adding a zest of citrus scents.

Lighting for your table setting can be as simple as adding a cluster of heirloom candle holders. Twinkling votives are also a great way add a little dimension and vivacity to your display along with weaving a string of fairy lights through, or at the base of the florals. Adding a lighting element will create an ambiance to your event.

TABLE SETTING

Creating a fancy table setting might be an overwhelming task but it’s quite simple when you break it down. Linen is all the rage at the moment, so start with a nice crisp off-white linen tablecloth draped over your table. Next is your plates and placemats. Plain white plates on top of a textured placemat will emphasise the white plates. Try to keep your placemat colour choice to something soft like pastel colours, rattan for a Byron vibe, or even a striking gold for a hint of luxury. Place a linen napkin in the centre of your plate. This can either be folded in a triangle or rolled into a long cylinder. To finish off the setting, place your cutlery on either side of the plate or tuck them into your cleverly folded napkin.

GET CRAFTY!

What mother doesn’t love getting handmade gifts from their children? Having handmade items on the table brings your own personal touch to the setting. Tap into your inner child and bring out the paper and pens to create name tags for each setting. Not everyone is going to have beautiful handwriting but that’s okay, we’re going for the ‘homemade’ vibe. These tags can be placed on top of your napkins on each individual plate, so each guest feels special. Creating connection and the extra effort like this is sure to make your Mother’s Day celebration a forever memorable event for your family.
